PICKS: NEW LOOK BODYCON DRESSES

New_Look_Bodycon_Dresses_5

In my town there is only one affordable high-street clothing store available to young women: New Look. Most of my wardrobe at one point, prior to branching out for clothes online and looking further afield, was New Look. Even now though, my first port of call is New Look, purely because I can rely on the quality being excellent, the sizing being accurate and the clothes being on-trend.

Having recently lost some weight and gaining some confidence I've started to experiment with dressing like a lady, including wearing a lot more dresses and skirts. I've always been scared of the Body-Con look before, purely because I thought I'd look like a sack of potatoes squeezed into a frilly sock. Recently though I've been loving them. So here are my top Body-Con New Look picks that can easily be taken from daytime shopping to night-time bar hopping.

1. New Look 147 Fashion Grey Colour Block Body Con Dress (RRP £24.99)

This dress is really flattering because of the colour blocking: it draws attention to the waist without highlighting any lumps or bumps. Grey is definitely this season's defining colour, as seen on the Chloe and Alexander McQueen runways, but the yellow and black blocks keep it fresh and interesting. During the day to make sure the cooler weather doesn't leave a chill this (2) Black Crackled Front Waterfall Cardigan (RRP £17.99) is casual and comfortable. For something more structured in the evening to keep away the cold this (3) Black Jacquard Blazer (RRP £27.99) is on trend, the jacquard details being a big part of the Oscar de la Renta look for autumn and winter.
Boots are the perfect for autumn/winter and these (4) Black Cut Out Buckled Shoe Boots (RRP £29.99) would look great with this dress and some thick black tights. For a shoe that looks more classic these (5) Black Tassle Tab Buckle Court Shoes (RRP £29.99) are definitely the choice to go for. Not only do they look fabulous with this dress but they'd work well with any other part of your wardrobe too.
Belts are a great way to cinch in the waist and change the look of a dress. This (6) Brown Animal Printed Textured Skinny Belt (RRP £3.99) adds a bit of print to a day time look whilst keeping the emphasis on the colour blocking on the dress. For night go all out with this (7) Stud Wide Stretch Belt (RRP £6.99) to really give the dress an edge.
Obviously no look is complete without the bags and jewelry. Keep it simple in the day with a practical tote like this (8) Navy Leather Look Zip Trim Tote Bag (RRP £24.99) - the navy looks chic whilst clashing nicely with the yellow blocks on the dress. Similarly, for a pop of clashing colour, a gorgeous clutch like this (9) Pink and Gold Envelope Clutch (RRP £7.99) will have more than enough room to keep your essentials safe whilst you're sipping Tequila Sunrises. Touches of sparkle during the day should be kept to a great pair of statement studs like these (10) Gold and Burgundy Gem Stone Earrings (RRP £4.99). At night something show-stopping is called for like this (11) Silver Gem Encrusted Choker (RRP £14.99) which instantly adds dome glamour.

(12) New Look Black Leather Look Bodycon Midi Dress (RRP £22.99)

The leather trend shows no sign of abating thanks to Chanel's offerings for this season so why not combine this look with body-con for a fashion forward yet lady-like feel? Day or night leather is look that really is very versatile. The trick is to keep the accessories textured and interesting so that whilst the dress speaks for itself there it doesn't look too much. For day time shopping trips this (13) Burgundy Long Line Knitted Cardigan (RRP £17.99) adds some softness to the look whilst embracing the autumnal colours this season. For something more sophisticated this (14) Atelier 61 Mint Green Fold Overlay Blazer (RRP £28.00) will look smart but also bring some soft colour to the look.
Shoes should be suede effect - too much leather could kill this dress completely. These (15) Black Metal Tab Slipper Shoes (RRP £17.99) are perfect for a long day on your feet. Contrast your colours at night for a more Carrie Bradshaw feel with these (16) Red and Grey Colour Block Double Ankle Strap Heels (RRP £19.99).
Accessories are so important when it comes to leather looks so with your bag make sure it stands out. This (17) Beige Colour Block Winged Croc Bag (RRP £34.99) is in keep with the autumnal tones but looks great with the dress. For evening a clutch is the way to go and this (18) Black Checkerboard Panel Envelope Clutch (RRP £15.99) gives a point of interest to the outfit in the form of a print. Statement necklaces don't have to be over-the-top so for day looks with leather simplicity is the way to go. This (19) Gold Cut Out Triangle Pendant Necklace (RRP £5.99) gives a touch of glamour to the neckline of the dress without being too much. At night however the bigger the better; this (20) Gold and Orange Bead Western Necklace (RRP £14.99) looks fabulous against the black leather. Rings are big business in the accessories arena and have been for many seasons now so pile them on and let your hands have a  fashion moment. Keep them ultra simple during the day like these (21) 4 Pack Gold Metallic Geo Rings (RRP £7.99) which have cut out sections and look stylishly different to the normal. Chunky jewelry for night time looks are great so these (22) 4 Pack Blue Orange and Gold Stone Rings (RRP £7.99) are perfect and the colours of the stones tie in brilliantly with the necklace, blazer and shoe straps.

(23) New Look Parisian White and Pink Lotus Flower Scuba Bodycon Dress (RRP £17.99)

A dress like this one makes a statement all on it's own so it's best to keep everything else tonal and simple. The pink hues are a great nod to the trends created by Lanvin and Nina Ricci for autumn and winter. For lunch with the girls this (24) Cream Fluffy Textured Open Front Cardigan (RRP £24.99) ties in with the trend for textured knitwear but also keeps the dress looking more casual. For meeting the other half for date night this (25) Mink Jersey Waterfall Leather Look Jacket (RRP £39.99) is a great cover up that makes a great alternative to a black blazer.
For footwear these (26) Black Wedge Shoe Boots (RRP £19.99) are going to be comfortable to wear all day whilst still giving a little bit of height whilst for all out glamorous heel these (27) Black Metal Heel Platform Court Heels (RRP £29.99) sex up this dress whilst not clashing with the print.
Necklaces will be hard to pull off with a high neckline like this dress has so stick to simple earrings and bracelets as your main accessories. To coordinate with the triangular shape of the lotus flowers these (28) Black Enamel Triangle Drop Earrings (RRP £3.99) tie in perfectly whilst for night stick with something similar but a little more statement like these (29) Gold Chain Trim Diamante Arrow Drop Earrings (RRP £5.99). Around the wrist it's always good to have some detail. This (30) Gold Chain Plate Bracelet (RRP £4.99) is simple enough so as not to distract from the dress but keeps with the colour tones. For something more than simple this (31) Black and Nude Bead Cuff (RRP £4.99) is still tonal but offers more impact.
And then the bags... Practical and pretty meet in this (32) Black Contrast Snakeskin Bowler Bag (RRP £19.99) so that all of your stuff can be toted around with ease. For the evening it's a clutch again but this time in the form of a (33) Black Colour Block Portfolio Clutch (RRP £19.99) which is big enough for more than just your lipstick and front door keys when you go out dancing.

(34) New Look Black Quilted 3/4 Sleeve Midi Dress (RRP £17.99)

This dress is a must-have for autumn and winter. Black goes with anything, can be dressed down or up and the quilting detail on the shoulders of this dress add a little 'something special' to what would otherwise be just a very simple staple. The bodycon fit means it clings in all the right places to give a sleek silhouette. Everyone should own a denim jacket and throwing one over this dress when you're heading out of the door looks effortless. This (35) Mid Blue Washed Effect Denim Jacket (RRP £17.99) accomplishes that perfectly. For something more 'wow' on a dinner date this (36) Deep Pink Zip Pocket Blazer (RRP £19.99) adds colour and contrast to brighten up the outfit.
To keep with the casual theme this dress is versatile enough to wear with flats or converse. These (37) Turquoise Lace Up Plimsolls (RRP £11.99) tap into the blue colours which are really popular this season whilst being super comfortable. Keeping with the blue theme these (38) Teal Ankle Strap Platform Court Shoes (RRP £19.99) are a brilliant colour clash with the pink jacket. The great thing about black is that literally anything goes with it.
This (39) Teal and Gold Heavy Chain Tote Bag (RRP £29.99) is great for simply throwing everything you need to take with you when you're popping out for the day. To keep with the block colour contrasting but adding some pattern into the mix too this (40) Red Quilted Chain Box Across Body Bag (RRP £12.99) looks great with this evening look but is also small enough to pass as a clutch if needed.
Moving onto accessories these pieces are perfect for both the day and night. They're bright, statement and really liven up the black dress. This (41) Neon and Silver Chain and Crystal Necklace (RRP £19.99) is a stand out statement that looks great regardless of what it's worn with. For some fun pops of colour these (42) Neon Green Strap Bracelet (RRP £5.99) and (43) Neon Pink Strap Bracelet (RRP £5.99) look fab stacked one on top of the other.
So that's my wish list and how I'd style it. I think these dresses are great and definitely in shapes and styles that would remain staples in my wardrobe for many seasons to come!
