If you follow me on YouTube you'll know that one of my most recent purchases has been a couple of the L'Oreal Colour Caresse Glamshine Lipstains. I originally bought 'Princess' (which is the colour I'm reviewing here) and one called 'Lolita'.

As L'Oreal is an umbrella corperation for a lot of the more popular beauty brands it's only natural to see them produce dupes from their higher-end brands and filter them down into the drugstore. The L'Oreal stains are dupes for the YSL Glossystains that have been raved about so much.

The packaging is great and really expensive looking for a budget brand. It's sleek, simple and easy to fit into a purse or handbag for travelling with. L'Oreal always looks a lot more pricey than it actually is.

Although I was originally baffled by the fact that this product opens from the bottom but it makes a nice change. The heart-shaped doe-foot applicator is small but easy enough to use if you have a steady hand. The little pool in the heart-shape stores product so that it can be distributed evenly too.

Now, I'm a little bit torn about these products. I really really love 'Princess' which is a bright orange coral and I have been using with regularity since I bought it. I actually gave away Lolita because there was just no colour pay off whatsoever and it was really disappointing.

The product does stain quite well but it doesn't leave the lips feeling particularly dry or matte. There's a nice shine to them after application but it does take a few applications to get a block of colour as you can see from the pictures above. Until they're dry there is the potential for smudging and bleeding and a lot of mess so just be wary. The colour range is somewhat lacking from all accounts of what is available at the moment but there is a red called 'Juliette' I would like to get my hands on.

My recommendations are that these products are definitely worth looking at but for the brighter colours only. I wouldn't bother with the lighter ones as they're not very pigmented. Tread carefully when applying too.

L'Oreal Lipstains are available from L'Oreal counters across the UK. RRP £7.99.

  1. So sad that you don't like Lolita! I actually adore it. I think it suits incredibly fair skintones best, probably, but on my lips it changes to a colour I can't really describe... I sort of brown/peach natural shade that looks stunning on.

I bought Romy also, and although it looks okay, I don't like it nearly as much. I think I just don't like pinks on me!

I was tempted by Princess as well, and it looks beautiful on you but I think it wouldn't look as nice on me!

  2. Seen so many good reviews for the darker shades of this product, the packaging looks so up end and gorgeous, must try! :) xo
