Party season is fast approaching: Christmas cocktails with colleagues, family gatherings, nights out with friends. This season fashion has reinvented jewel tones and what better way to embrace that than by ditching the usual greys and blacks of a smoky eye in favour of something a little more colourful?

A lot of us stick to neutrals when it comes to eyeshadow - they're safe, never look 'over the top' and can be blended easily. They also look more mature than a baby blue across the lids and are usually more suited for sticking a bright lipstick with. However there are a few palettes around that can coerce us out of our usual routines and with the exception of the obvious choices (Urban Decay Vice palettes - I'm looking at you) this Vivo Colour Block Eye Palette in 'Show Me The Money' is definitely one of them.

The packaging is nothing much to look at: black, plastic, the usual drugstore affair that a lot of the more affordable brands choose to use. The product inside is far more impressive though so never judge a palette by it's packaging.

The colours are incredibly varied. There's a pink, purples, a teal, a gold, a stunning dark navy and variations of all those just listed. Even if you only use this palette to experiment with when it comes to trends fresh of the catwalk it's worth having in your stash.

The shadows are very pigmented, shimmery (but not overtly so) and have minimal fall out. The lighter shades can look a little chalky if they're not blended properly but that isn't something that can be overcome with a decent blending brush and extra couple of minutes to perfect your look. The wear time is an acceptable five hours but they do crease if you have oily eye lids so I would suggest a primer just to make sure that they don't budge.

My personal favourite is the dark navy which looks amazing with a dark crease, smoked out with a cat eye flick of liner and a gold highlight in the inner corner of the eye. Similarly the dark green/teal is stunning used in the same way with a bright blue used as a 'pop' instead of the gold. I'm not sure I'll get much use out of the red or pink shades as a) that trend seems to have passed fairly quickly and b) I have no desire to intentionally make myself look like I have severe conjunctivitis. Still, if you like those looks then those shades would be perfect for you.

I really like this palette and I think for the price (£3.99) it's a really good buy if you're looking for colours to experiment with or compliment the major colours of the season and don't want to splash out on the more higher end brands.

Vivo Colour Block Eye Palette in 'Show Me The Money' (£3.99) is available from Tesco stores and online as well as the Vivo website. You can follow Vivo Cosmetics on Twitter and Facebook for news, new product launches, competitions and information about the brand.

  1. They are so incredibly pigmented for the price! VIVO are such a great brand that really do get overlooked because of companies like MUA sometimes, I do love MUA and similar companies but VIVO do deserve a bit more credit! xx
